The town existed to service the government-owned and -operated meatworks, which functioned only for four to six months each year. During the period from April to the end of October, while the big electricity plant was operating for the meatworks refrigeration, the picture gardens inside the meatworks compound opened regularly for the entertainment of the public as well as the meatworks employees. Film screenings recorded from 1921.
Building was replaced in 1965.
