Venue Comments

"The Majestic opened in 1921 on the site of an older theatre; Petersham Picture show, also known as Audley No 2, Waddington's, Elite and Queen's. The new Majestic seated some 3,000 patrons when first opened. In 1946 it became part of Greater Union's empire and in 1947 was renamed Odeon. In 1952 it was extensively modernised (except the facade) seating being reduced to 1764... GU continued to operate it, but sometime in the 1960s it was sold and used by several operators to screen continental films until 1976, when it closed completely." (Tod 2011, p.17)
