Venue Comments

Films were exhibited at the Fairy Meadow School of Arts Hall, trading under the name of the Empire Theatre, from 1949 to around 1959 by local businessman Mr D Ritchie. The exact date of closure is unknown however the cinema is listed in the 1958-1959 but not the 1959-60 edition of the Film Weekly Motion Picture Directory. Parkinson (1995, pp.79-80) notes that Richie faced considerable hurdles in respect to the licencing authority for much of the period of the cinemas existence.

The building was demolished in the 1960s to make way for a housing estate.
