Data from Film Weekly and http://cinematreasures.org/ The Queens Theatre was opened in 1913. In 1938 it was re-named Sesqui Theatre. It became part of the MGM chain in the 1953 and was renamed the Metro Crows Nest. In early-1971, Metro sold the chain to Greater Union but, for some reason, the Crows Nest site was initially not part of the takeover. It was re-named Village Theatre in 1974 and operated under this name only until 1975 After a short closure, it ran second release product for some months, then closed for refurbishment, reopening in December 1977 as part of the Dendy group with the Australian premiere of â€œThe 12 Chairsâ€. For several years it featured first release product, including a run of â€œHarold and Maudeâ€ before closing when the Dendy group ran into financial trouble. The theater was demolished in 1983 and the land redeveloped.
