Opening of the Savoy as referenced in Sydney Morning Herald: "The new Savoy Theatre in Bligh-street was opened with a gala midnight performance on Friday night. Despite the early hour at which the programme ended, and the attendant difficulties of transport, a large crowd witnessed the screening. The theatre has been fitted with a talking machine of Australian manufacture, which compares very favourably with those of oversea origin. The principal picture, "Sunny Side Up", was previously screened at the Plaza Theatre."
